Welcome Words

Welcome to our holiday blog! We're very new to this so forgive us if the blog looks a bit clunky or awkward at times. Anyway, we hope you will enjoy following our travels through Southern USA. During March and April we will be discovering America's 'Deep South', launching our journey in Las Vegas and ending in Texas. We hope you enjoy reading about our journey and (mis)adventures along the way...Daren, Melissa and Logan

Ten Days in Tennessee

Logan and I target Daren with our water guns on the boat ride at DollyWood
Well, our 10 days in Tennessee came to an end today when we drove the beautiful Blue Ridge Parkway though the Smokey Mountains into North Carolina.

Tennessee really is an amazing State - musically, geographically, and historically. I can't wait to come back and explore it some more. A log cabin in the beautiful Smokey Mountains for a few weeks sounds like a nice break next time we return. The only downside to the State is that there is a lot of "Jesus Loves You" and not enough "Happy Hour" (so many counties in Tennessee are 'dry' meaning no alcohol can be sold).

Dollywood was great fun - we got drenched on some of the rides. Logan and I chickened out and didn't ride America's first winged roller coaster, but Daren did and said it was really something.

We also enjoyed a show at the Dixie Stampede - Dolly Parton's version of the Outback Spectacular that we have on the Gold Coast (but much better). We had hoped to visit the Titanic Museum while we were in Pigeon Forge but this weekend marks the 100th anniversary of the sinking of the ship and I opted to ditch the crowds there for some time exploring the waterways and nature trails in the Smokey Mountain National Park instead. Daren and I had recently read a book about hiking along the Appalachian Trail which traverses this national park and didn't really appreciate how challenging it was until we saw the landscape up close.

Anyway, White Knight safely delivered us to Asheville in North Carolina today - tomorrow we are off to visit Biltmore Mansion - the largest home in America built by the Vanderbilt Family.

PS How good is the Mexican food in the USA - we have just come home from a early dinner at a great Mexican restaurant down the road: Spinach enchiladas, the best chicken fajitas and a mean margarita!

  1. Hi we are very jealous. Damn so you didn't queue for the Titantic Museum. So who were you. I have been reading about some of the families that were on there. So you really did take Sarah with you. The girl in the picture at Dollywood with you shooting the water, looks like Sarah. When is the Easter egg hunt happening, we are going to miss having that at your place this year. First day of school holidays here and not doing too bad.

  2. Enjoy your Easter holidays girls. Logan will be hunting for Easter Eggs along with some other children at a place called Myrtle Beach where we are staying for Easter. They have lots of Easter activities for kids at the resort like Easter cookie decorating, egg painting, and other easter craft. Hope the bunny finds you all - I promise to return to the annual Azzopardi Easter Egg Hunt and Brunch next year x
