Welcome Words

Welcome to our holiday blog! We're very new to this so forgive us if the blog looks a bit clunky or awkward at times. Anyway, we hope you will enjoy following our travels through Southern USA. During March and April we will be discovering America's 'Deep South', launching our journey in Las Vegas and ending in Texas. We hope you enjoy reading about our journey and (mis)adventures along the way...Daren, Melissa and Logan

A relaxing Easter...

We hope your Easter break was as relaxing and restorative as ours. We spent Good Friday to Easter Monday at Myrtle Beach, which is at the centre of a 60-mile strip of beach side towns that line the South Carolina Coast.

Myrtle Beach is a bit like the Gold Coast in some sections (touristy with lots of fun attractions) and part like the beach side communities of northern New South Wales (lots of beautiful ocean front homes).

We are all suffering a little from a mild cold, so three days of warm sunshine, long walks along the beach, and some healthy simple seafood meals has done us the world of good. The resort where we stayed had some great activities for kids, including a huge Easter Egg hunt and delicious Easter Sunday brunch, so we didn't miss being away from family at Easter too much.

Today was the longest drive of our trip so far - 300 miles from Myrtle Beach to Atlanta. We start exploring this city of five million people which is known as the capital of the South tomorrow - I will let you know how we go.
The resort we stayed at in Myrtle Beach had its own private beach with very comfortable deck chairs and umbrellas all set up and ready to go.

Easter Sunday Brunch - this plate of food was about all Logan ate after so many jelly beans and chocolates in  the Easter Egg hunt.

Logan lines up with the other kids for the egg hunt. He collected about 40 eggs and gave most of them away to other kids who weren't as quick.

The view of South Carolina's intercoastal waterway from our room at Myrtle Beach.

The view from my beach chair - between my cold and the wind, I stayed rugged up and enjoyed the sunshine.

Logan was a lot braver and swum in the Atlantic - clearly the American diet hasn't impacted his waistline yet!

North Myrtle Beach is home to an annual Shaggers competition - Daren and I did not try out (google it and find out what it is)

It wouldn't be a trip to the US without a chilli dog from a street vendor.

Hot-dog eating tip - eat with your legs apart otherwise most of it will end up on your lap!

  1. Why didn't you put your shoes on and Shag all night? You picked a perfect place to spend Easter Mel. Should have been having a few rums at brunch to get rid of that cold! Logan even looks cold in that water. Glad you had a relaxing time - looking forward to hearing about Atlanta. Love to you all, Mum and Jim XX
